The Cathartic Drawing

Post fatdog 120 I’ve had blended feelings of extreme relief and renewed inspiration.

I couldn’t stop looking out the window from the airplane flying over the mountains until the topography became flat once again.

My experience in B.C. Is still so visually fresh that I had to start a new piece as soon as I got back east. It felt great to get in the studio. I decided to staple gun a big piece of canvas to the wall and pull out all my dry medium. Kneaded erasers, vine charcoal, and graphite. Working this big 53″x 63″ enabled a nice loose gestural quality to the drawing.

I worked from a photo but eventually just had the confidence to draw from memory and the the experience of running out there.
